Blessed Are the Peacemakers A Psychological Thriller Where Faith Confronts Violence edition by Stephen McCutchan Literature Fiction eBooks

Frank Sessions, pastor of John Knox Church in Lincoln, North Carolina, is halfway through his sermon when he sees a teenager rise from his pew a third of the way back in the sanctuary. Before Frank can process what is happening, the youth calls out his name, shouts that it is all a lie, and begins shooting people around him.
Within two weeks, a teenage girl shoots up another church. Both willingly die in the process. Later it happens in Wisconsin, then Texas, and beyond. Soon the whole nation lives in fear that a church near them will be next. It is always a teenager with some version of the same accusation.
When they finally capture one teen alive, on questioning, they hear about a mysterious leader who identifies alienated teenagers on the internet, uses equally alienated veterans to train them, and sends them to their next target.
Frank, his psychologist son, Jacob, and police officer daughter, Rachel, join with Amanda Singletary of the Justice Department to advise the President on this new form of terrorist threat to the country. The Leader even hacks into national news broadcasts and the President’s news conference with taunting messages in banners across the screen.
The church and the nation are under attack. Who is this mysterious leader, what is the leader’s connection with Frank, why are the churches always the target? These are the questions that Frank and his family seek to answer as the death toll mounts across the nation.
Since the attacks seem random, and there are too many churches in the country to guard them effectively, Frank’s team seeks a strategy to countermand the despair in the minds of an invisible river of teens attracted to violence as their answer to the world that has disappointed them.
A gripping story that pits faith and realistic hope against the desperate despair in a nation that has lost its confidence in institutions and people in power.

As listed in the previous review, I found this book to be very well written and interesting. It is one of the few books I read in just under two weeks, which for me is remarkable. While the plot is easily understandable, there is a real sense of "what comes next and how are they going to resolve the situation." It is written in a way that makes you feel like you are part of the story since the scenario is plausible. As I neared the completion of the book, I found myself getting out of bed (where I read before I go to sleep) and staying up for a couple of hours to finish the gripping story.Product details

Blessed Are the Peacemakers A Psychological Thriller Where Faith Confronts Violence edition by Stephen McCutchan Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Very twisted psycoligical plot. Could not put the book down. Masterfully written. Midge Barnes
Kudos for an intentionally theological thriller with a pastor as the lead character that deals deftly with the violence on a grand scale of hubris that can stalk us even in the shelter of church. Characters are deeply drawn with welcome surprises that defy stereotypes. The redemptive ending makes the violence more digestable.
Mr McCutchan has written a book for our times. The story is compelling and the characters are true. How do we confront the terror of mass murder in our nation and nation and communities? Can leaders in our faith communities play a role in reducing violence and terrorism? The author is a Presbyterian pastor and obviously he believes the answer is yes. But it is not easy, it is dangerous and it takes courage. Blessed are the Peacemakers scared me with the truly believable terror threat it creates and it gave me hope that peacemakers can prevail.
Stephen McCutchan has written a story with a tragic theme of violence that is all too common in our society today. His choice of setting is disturbing as it centers around a state of fear and panic in churches throughout the country. Whether a shopping mall, a school, an airport or other place where random violence occurs, Stephen has weaved his story around an outbreak of terror in houses of worship. However, while violence can shake our psyches, there is another theme that threads its way to the end. In the midst of horror, there are those who always step up to the occasion and resist living by fear. In this story these characters become the heroes who give hope back to the community. Peacemakers want to change the hearts of those who are hurting and guide those who experience fear to seek solutions. Stephen has a writing style which enhances each setting with descriptive language. I recommend his book and encourage groups of church folk to discuss it. A Progressive Feast In Parabolic Story
Grieving, effective pastor and his mature adult son and daughter are drawn into helping to unravel the mysterious terrorist plot that explodes in his Sunday worship. Two local teenagers attending the city high school shoot into the congregation, wounding the pastor and others. The terror quickly spreads across the country into other churches, drawing in the FBI. The likable, thoughtful characters, several of whom are romantically attracted to each other, add a richness to the story. The suspenseful terror continues until the end of the novel. This reader's attention was held until the last page.
